Del Oro defeated Ponderosa HS 51-22 to win its second Sac Joaquin Section Division 2 Team Duals Championship in program history. Del Oro started the day with an 84-0 win over Cordova HS and followed it with a 60-21 victory over West Park HS in the semifinals to set up a showdown with 2024 D2 runner up Ponderosa. Ponderosa had started out the day with a 71-12 win over Johansen HS in the first round and then defeated Turlock HS to advance to the finals. Del Oro started out with sophomore Declan Leonard winning a 7-4 decision over #14 ranked Alexander Mallot. Nate Mitchell and Kam Rush scored pins at 120 lbs and 138 lbs, respectively. At 144 lbs Brayden Gury fell behind 7-0 in the first round but then went on a 19 point tear to earn a major decision. Cooper Sheesley (152 lbs) and Liam Brunton (167 lbs) both earned technical falls and Russell Von Seipler (177 lbs) and Evan Hilmen (192 lbs) pinned their opponents to cinch the win.
Next up for the team is the SFL Tournament in Rocklin on Saturday. The SFL Tournament is the end of the season for JV and the first post-season tournament on the road to state for Varsity.
