The Del Oro Boys Wrestling Team concluded the 2025-2026 season with one state medalist and a 16th place overall finish at the CIF State Championship. The team started out the tournament with eight wrestlers and moved four of them on to the third and final day of competition. Highlights of the second day were Christian Perez’s 7-4 sudden victory win over returning state medalist Carlos Melgoza (Kingsburg HS) and Jamison French fighting off a late rally from Lucius Hayden (Los Gatos HS) to make it to the last day. Once wrestlers have made it to the third day the brackets have been winnowed to the Top 12 wrestlers in the state. The first match of Saturday, colloquially known as "The Blood Round”, lived up to its name as three Del Oro wrestlers dropped close matches and narrowly missed making the podium. The lone winner, Chase Young, defeated Dylan Tirapelle (Clovis HS) 5-1 to cinch a place on the podium and become the 29th Del Oro wrestler in program history to earn a medal at state. Since 1995 Del Oro has only failed four times to earn a medal at state (2000, 2001, 2006, and 2012).
Although the State Tournament marks the end of the 2025-2026 season, we are grateful for all our graduating seniors and their families. Thanks for all the time and effort they have put into the program and best wishes in the future.
