Local wrestlers claim Masters titles, advance to CIF State Championships

Several area wrestlers stood on the podium at Adventist Health Arena in Stockton on Saturday after impressive performances in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament.

In total, six wrestlers from local schools won individual championships and an additional 22 qualified for the CIF State Championships this Thursday through Saturday at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield.

On the boys' side, Del Oro’s Cooper Sheesley (150 pounds) and Jamison French (165) each captured Masters titles, along with Folsom’s Kingston Cruzat (106) and Orion Hill (138). In the girls' tournament, Brynn Madden (145) of Del Oro and Jordan Deleon (120) of Oak Ridge claimed Masters crowns.

Numerous local wrestlers secured state berths with top-five finishes.

Del Oro will send eight boys to state: Declan Leonard (113), Christian Perez (120), Nate Mitchell (126), Kameron Rush (144), Chase Young (157) and Evan Hilmen (175), joining Sheesley and French. Folsom qualified six boys with Nox Cruzat (113), Logan Hara (120), Anthony Cruz (132) and Kayden Hoang (165) advancing with champions Kingston Cruzat and Hill.

Whitney’s Theodore Young (138) and West Park’s Liam Forsyth (190) also punched tickets to Bakersfield.

On the girls' side, Del Oro’s Kaiya Maggini (125) and Ximena Vazquez (130) earned state berths in addition to Madden.
