Del Oro took 3rd place with 201.5 points at the Sierra Nevada Classic, trailing 1st place Central HS (Fresno, CA) and narrowly falling behind 2nd place Claremore HS (Claremore, OK) by 2.5 points. Making it to the finals were juniors Christian Perez (120 lbs), Siraj Sidhu (126 lbs), and Kam Rush (138 lbs). Sidhu advanced to the finals with 4 pins and a tech to set up a rematch against Washington 3A State Champion Czar Quintanilla (University HS, Spokane Valley, WA). Sidhu and Quintanilla had previously met in the 2023 Sierra Nevada Classic finals at 113 lbs with Sidhu overcoming a 5-0 deficit in the first round to win the match. Sidhu scored quickly to set up a 10-1 lead in the first round and finished with an 18-2 technical fall to earn his 3rd Sierra Nevada Classic championship and the Lightweight Outstanding Wrestler Award. Kam Rush entered an 83 man bracket unseeded and knocked off the #3, #6, and #7 seeds en route to the finals match. There he defeated Gavin Coit (El Dorado HS, Placerville) 4-2 to take the match and win his first varsity tournament championship. Christian Perez defeated Abe Coronado (2024 3rd place, Nevada 5A) of McQueen HS 10-2 in the semifinals to match up against currently-ranked #7 in California Anthony Castillo (Central HS, Fresno) but was lost a close 7-6 decision. Also placing for the Golden Eagles were Evan Hilmen (4th at 175 lbs) and Declan Leonard (6th at 113 lbs).
Next weekend the team will compete at the Joe Rios Tournament (Chico HS) and the Doc B Tournament (Clovis HS).
