Del Oro competed at the Zinkin Classic (Buchanan HS) this weekend and improved on last year’s 13th place finish and two placers with a 6th place finish and four placers, including 126 lb champion Siraj Sidhu. Sidhu scored four pins in his first four matches to advance to the finals against Thunder Lewis (Clovis HS), currently ranked 9th in the state. Sidhu scored three takedowns and two sets of nearfall in the match secure a 18-2 tech fall and become the first Del Oro champion at the Zinkin Classic since Noah Blake in December 2017. Based on his body of work Sidhu was selected by the tournament directors as the Overall Most Outstanding Wrestler. Also placing were Declan Leonard (3rd 106 lbs), Nate Mitchell (5th 113 lbs), and Kam Rush (8th 138 lbs). Leonard dropped an overtime match to JJ Greene (Buchanan HS) in the quarterfinals but knocked out four wins in the consolation bracket to place 3rd, including a 4-1 win over Greene in the third place match.
