As usual it was a close match between two tough teams that came down to the last match.
Del Oro defeated Folsom 35-30, bringing the Eagles’ SFL record to 4-0 and one match closer to league title. Del Oro had a rocky start; the first match at 150 lbs ended when Logan Banks inadvertently performed an illegal mat return on Folsom’s Rylen Smith. Smith was unable to continue the match and Folsom was awarded six points. At 157 lbs Wyatt Alexander got the Eagles on the score board with a close 9-7 win over Preston McAnich. McAnich had beaten Alexander twice this year In tournament finals but Alexander was able to grind out the win this time. Brock Sherman was pinned by Alexander Webster but Evan Hilmen pinned Angelo Sardo to make it a wash. At 190 lbs Breyden Rush met up with Alec Coffin. Their previous match up at the Joe Rios Tournament had seen Coffin run up ten points on Rush before pinning him. This time, however, Rush controlled the pace of the match and secured a 3-1 win. At 215 Patrick Bailey pinned Hamzah Aishani but HWT Dominic Matthews pinned Jack Brunton to even the score 18-18 halfway through the match. Coming back around ay 106 lbs Nate Mitchell rode out Kingston Cruzat 4-3 to briefly give Del Oro the advantage but Mas Hatano pinned Declan Leonard in the third round to give the Folsom the 24-21 lead. At 120 lbs Siraj Sidhu blitzed #24 Chase Manski (at 120 lbs) 5-0 in the first round and 11-0 in the second round before pinning him in the third round. At 126 lbd Christian Perez ground out a hard 5-4 win over Orion Hill (#17 at 113). Hill rode out Perez the entire second round to enter the 3rd round tied 3-3. Hill scored an escape to take the lead 4-3 but Perez was able to score a takedown and ride out Hill to win the match 5-4 and put Del Oro ahead 30-24. At 132 Kai Yi-Berg scored the winning takedown in the closing seconds of the match to win 8-6 and Nicholaus Spotswood defeated freshman Cooper Sheesley 9-3 to tie the team score at 30-30 going into the last match at 144 lbs, Jagger French vs Matt Loftis. French tech falled Loftis 23-8 to ice the dual 35-30 in favor of Del Oro.
Next up for the team is the Annual Del Oro JV Tournament on Saturday and an away match against Granite Bay on Wednesday.
