DEL ORO DEFEATS FOLSOM 32-27 TO WIN SFL TITLE

Del Oro defeats Folsom 32-27 to win SFL title

Del Oro defeated Folsom High Wrestling 32-27 in the final SFL match of the season, finishing the season at 7-0 and SFL Champions. As usual the match provided several bonus points matches (9) and constant lead changes (5). The dual began at 192 lbs and the Eagles started out hot; 177 lb Evan Hilmen bumped up to 192 and pinned Folsom’s Chidubem Mmagu while at 217 lbs regular 190 lbs Russ Von Seipler scored a takedown with 30 seconds left in the match to take a 4-2 decision over Rocky Ortiz.
Folsom came back with three wins in a row to take the lead at 13-9, running up two technical falls and a decision. At HWT Folsom’s Collin Graham WBTF 21-6 over Jaxen Wrigh) and, coming back around, Folsom’s 108 lbs crew of Jordan Yi-Berg and Lennox Cruzat took a decision and a technical fall over the Eagles (Jordan Yi- Berg WBD 4-1 Benson Tanner and Lennox Cruzat WBTF 19-4 Wyatt Valice).
Folsom’s last 108 lbs, Senior Kingston Cruzat bumped up to 122 lbs to take on Christian Perez, but Perez scored the lone takedown to win a tight 4-1 decision. In the next two matches Del Oro’s Logan Alexander and Nate Mitchell swapped spots in the lineup and came away with two major decisions (128 lbs Logan Alexander WBMD 12-4 Max Wong and 134 lbs Nate Mitchell WBMD 9-0 AJ Cruz) to score eight team points and put the Eagles ahead 20-13.
Folsom then went on a three match run with a tech fall at 140 lbs (Tak Hatano WBTF 17-0 Eli Berry), a pin at 146 lbs (Kai Yi-Berg WBF Luke Broadhurst), and a decision at 152 lbs (Orion Hill WBD 7-4 Kam Rush) to take back the lead at 27-20 with three matches left in the dual.
Cooper Sheesley (159 lbs) put Del Oro back in range with a 19-4 technical fall over Logan Ross, setting up a pivotal 167 lbs rematch between Chase Young and Kayden Hoang. Young had defeated Hoang in a close 5-2 decision in the finals of the Vista Del Lago Eagle Tournament in December; this time Young scored two takedowns to take a 7-2 win over Hoang and put the Eagles back in the lead at 28-27 going into the last match. At 177 lbs Del Oro’s Jamison French scored a 10-0 major decision over Sean Ramos put the Eagles ahead 32-27 for the win and the SFL championship.
Next up for the Eagles is the Sac Joaquin CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals at Lincoln of Stockton on Saturday.
