Del Oro hosted the 43rd Annual Del Oro JV Tournament this weekend, pitting the JV team against competitors from 32 other teams. Out of 23 participants The Eagles had 7 champions, two runner ups, and three third places. In the 120A Championship match Wyatt Valice found himself down 6-0 in the third round against Belel Naseri (Del Campo HS) but succeeded in grinding his opponent down and scoring a pin with three seconds left in the match to win. In the 138A semifinals match against Duke Hodson (Folsom HS) Levi Ruhkala fell behind 7-0 at the end of the first period and then 12-4 at the end of the second but scored three takedowns and a four point nearfall in the third round to tie the score 17-17 and send the match into overtime. Ruhkala scored the winning takedown in overtime to win 20-17 and advance to the finals where he defeated teammate Miles Hilmen 7-0 to take first.
Next up for the JV Team is a home match against undefeated Folsom HS on Tuesday. This is the final match in SFL competition and will determine the 2025-2026 JV league champion.
