Del Oro Boys Wrestling finished in second place overall out of 94 teams at the Sierra Nevada Classic, pulling past 3rd place Oakdale HS but falling short of first place Pitman HS (Turlock, CA) by 2.5 points. Benson Tanner (106 lbs), Kam Rush (144 lbs), and Cooper Sheesley made it to the finals; Tanner major decisioned Arjun Mediwala (Reno HS) 13-3 while Sheesley tech falled Odyn Santos (Lowry HS, 3rd NV 3A) 16-0. Kam Rush came up just short against EJ Sheeran (Pitman HS), losing 9-6 to take 2nd.
Declan Leonard (5th 113 lbs), Nate Mitchell (3rd 126 lbs), Chase Young (3rd 157 lbs), Jamison French (4th 165 lbs), and Evan Hilmen (3rd 175 lbs) wrestled back through the consolations to make it on to the podium. French took the longest path in the tournament, going 8-2 to take 4th. French entered the tournament unseeded and won two matches before losing to #2 seed Carson Melendy (Churchill County HS, 1st NV 3A) 11-5. French then won six matches in a row to make it to the third place match against Seth Wynn (Lebanon HS, OR, 5th OR 5A.), but dropped that match to finish 4th.
